Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) CEO Sacha Roytman has warned that if the heads of Barnard College reinstate two expelled students who violently entered a class on Israel at Columbia University threatening the attending students last month, then it will demonstrate that Jewish lives do not matter and give a green light for continued violence.
This comes in the wake of a violent invasion by hundreds of pro-Palestinian students of a building at Barnard last night demanding the reinstatement of the two students. Barnard President Laura Rosenbury and Dean Leslie Grinage were tentatively set to meet on Thursday afternoon with three of the violent protesters, who are demanding an immediate reversal of the two Barnard students’ expulsions, and an amnesty for all pro-Palestinian supporters.
“The invasion by pro-Palestinian rioters of a building at Barnard College, which included calls for the murder of Jews, is a disturbing act of antisemitism, which is sadly not the first of its kind at this college, or its affiliate, Columbia University,” said Roytman. “Since October 7th, a wave of antisemitism, violence, terrorism, and hate crimes has flooded campuses, universities, and colleges, which have transformed them from educational institutions into battlefields.”
“If the leaders of Barnard College succumb to these outrageous and violent threats, then it will show Jewish lives truly do not matter in their eyes, and this will provide a sense of legitimacy to those who call for violence and murder of Jews,” he added. “This is an important test for university heads, and one they dare not fail, or their campuses will turn into battlefields.”
In light of this and other similar recent events, CAM will hold an emergency “Global Student Summit Against Antisemitism” in New York City on March 22-23. The conference will bring together hundreds of students, activists, policymakers, and other prominent voices for discussions about the current situation and the best practices for fighting the dangerous and violent rise in on-campus antisemitism.
Protestors @BarnardCollege have flooded the main building, chanting and drumming while trying to block public safety officers with their keffiyehs. The building is locked down and students cannot get to classes.
