CAM Coalition Partners Spotlight: Podcasting for Progress

As podcasting continues to grow as a popular form of media across generational groups, many members of the partner coalition have produced podcasts to help spread their messages of positivity in the face of bigotry. Live events have also appealed to groups of all ages, featuring presenters and speakers on the current state of antisemitism and how civil society can combat it. 

Here is a sampling of how the coalition has made a difference this week:

Spotlight

March of the Living: On August 15th, March of the Living hosted a Q&A with the director of the new award-winning documentary about the Holocaust, “Three Minutes- A Lengthening,” Bianca Stigter. Premiering on August 19th in New York and Los Angeles, the film documents the only moving images that remain of the Jewish inhabitants of Nasielsk, Poland from prior to the Holocaust.

Upcoming Events and Opportunities

March of the Living Australia: Join March of the Living Australia this Sunday, August 21st, at 7:30 PM AEST for a conversation with Jerusalem journalist and Jewish educator Ittay Flescher! Titled “The Many Meanings of ‘Never Again,’” Flescher will cover the use of “never again” in social and political advocacy of the Shoah during this virtual conversation.

UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI): On August 23rd at 7 pm BST, Jacob Turner will chair the “Ben & Jerry’s Saga” event with Professor Jesse Fried. Professor Fried will cover the ongoing debate over Ben & Jerry’s sales in East Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria, as well as discuss the various legal claims and issues involving the ongoing issue.

Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership: Now open for applications, Spertus’ Leadership Certificate in Combating Antisemitism program invites leaders in North American Jewish organizations to participate and expand their expertise in a number of topics. Main program subjects will help in building knowledge of historical and current manifestations of antisemitism, skills in community engagement, risk assessment, strategic philanthropy, and much more.

Partner Achievements

HonestReporting Canada: In response to an article published by The Link, Concordia University’s student newspaper, on the recent conflict between the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and Israel, HonestReporting Canada deconstructed the misinformation and data manipulation present in The Link article. One of the main issues in The Link article, according to HonestReporting Canada, centers on the author referring to PIJ terrorists as “Resistance Fighters.”

Students Supporting Israel (SSI): From August 3rd through 5th, students from around the world gathered in Georgia for SSI’s 6th National Conference. Attendees heard from Zionist leaders, attended activism sessions, and celebrated ten years of SSI’s important work.

AMCHA Initiative: In a recently published op-ed, Tammi Rossman-Benjamin, the director of AMCHA Initiative, covered a University of California proposal that would require high school students to take a “critical” ethnic studies course to be considered for UC admission. The UC ethnic studies department has a history of antisemitism, and the courses they want high schoolers would follow in this hatred.

Jewish Insider: The newest episode of the Limited Liability Podcast, a new weekly podcast for Jewish Insider, is out now! Wall Street Journal columnist and scholar, Walter Russell Mead, joined the podcast to discuss his latest book, The Arc of a Covenant: The United States, Israel, and the Fate of the Jewish People.

Jewish Women International (JWI): Earlier this year, MyZuzah received $10,000 from Safety, Respect, Equity (SRE) to provide kosher, fair-trade mezuzahs to domestic violence survivors. As a result of the grant, JWI has partnered with MyZuzah to create a more organized engagement program around the mezuzot for survivors.

The Tikvah Fund: On August 12th, the Tikvah Fund released a new episode of the Tikvah Podcast. The episode titled “Yair Harel on Haim Louk’s Masterful Jewish Music” explores the connections between Judaism and Israeli music, with a special focus on how Israeli music has increased its international popularity following the infusion of religious themes, language, and sentiments.
