Exactly three years after the October 7th massacre, Norway’s far-left Peace and Justice Party (FOR) will join an Oslo protest held “in support of Hamas, Iran and Hezbollah.”
The activist group Solidarity Network is behind the demonstration, whose slogan is “Support the Palestinian resistance!” Promotional material features an image from October 7th showing terrorists atop a tank after breaching the Gaza security barrier.
FOR Youth, the Lebanese Association in Norway, Resistencia Intifada, Resistencia Oslo, Student Intifada, and Young Communists are also listed as affiliated with the demonstration.
Marielle Leraand, a former deputy leader of Norway’s Red Party (Rødt), founded FOR in 2023 and now heads it. FOR claims to be a peace movement opposed to war and imperialism.
Leraand turned on her country’s lawmakers on Facebook on Wednesday, writing that “the entire Norwegian parliament buys into the media narrative, repeating the lie that it is possible for Israel, supplied with weapons from the US, Germany, and other NATO countries, to be a ‘victim’ of a ‘terror attack from Hamas.'”
She also declared, “No, the real terrorists are Israel, the US, but also all countries that are part of the NATO alliance, including Norway.” She added, “The least we can do is therefore support the struggle that Palestinians themselves are waging.”
Leraand told the Norwegian media outlet Filter Nyheter on Tuesday that October 7th was “a counterattack against a genocide that was already underway.”
In reality, Hamas-led terrorists breached Israel’s border that day, massacring 1,200 people and abducting 251 others into Gaza in the deadliest attack on Jews since the Holocaust. Israel subsequently launched its war of self-defense against Hamas in Gaza. The genocide charge is a modern permutation of the historic blood libel, reviving the age-old slander of Jews as murderers and directing it at the Jewish state.
Leraand’s refusal to condemn Hamas and Hezbollah is nothing new. At a recent meeting, she said, “We recognize that it is a legitimate resistance struggle that Hezbollah, Iran and Hamas are carrying out. In our part of the world, it is not allowed to say that, that we support their struggle. Because it is a liberation struggle for the Palestinian people.”
